Ryuken...and Yuuko?

Appearance:
Due to a freak accident thusly explained away within the history, there are two appearances to deal away with explaining. To begin with, the actual Ryuken stands at 5’8” and has a fair complexion, never sitting in the sun much. Hair is a dual of white and black; with white being the primary on top and bangs structured in much a messy manor, while the black hair is mostly in the back and pulled into a think ponytail. Both eyes are a bright, grass green, with red tattoos just below his eyes, lining them, as well as some on his shoulders that are often covered up. Atop his head, amongst the snowy part of his locks are two wolf ears, gained unexplainably through his life. His alternative outfit to a captain is in the picture below, as to as he appears somewhat:

For his female other half, stands at very much the same height, as well as keeping the fair complexion. However, the hair is still white on top but in back it falls over the black for a foot before there’s a V-shape and it becomes the black shade from the nape of her neck, and is often pulled into a very low ponytail, and has two strands of hair that fall down her front. Atop her head are the same ears as in the male form, but rather than holding red tattoos she holds purple ones lining under and above her eyes, as well as on her shoulders. Personality:
Quite easily and possibly one of the most easy-going captains, it is sometimes assumed that he is much of a happy and simple minded goof, causing for the occasional assumption to his intelligence and abilities. This also leads to him to be able to overhear things and then let people think he either doesn’t understand it, or wasn’t paying attention due to his notorious ‘spacing’ tendency. Yes, it is true that Ryuken loves nothing more than to be able to look to the sky and space out, usually cloud watching or thinking, unclear at times. When thinking of the phrase “stop and smell the roses” in relation to Ryuken, he is the type who would stop to smell each and every rose. This means that perhaps his timing isn’t always enjoyable to a situation, due to his lackadaisical self, but he does get there before the shit hits the fan too harshly and can at least be reliable then in a time of need.

There are points in time when Ryuken will become a bit ‘picky’ in who he heals and for what reasons, usually meaning that the other person has either insulted his staff or acted rather rudely. His philosophy pertains to “apparently an ego can heal just as well as a healer, so surely you don’t need my help” with a smile tacked on. This then means the person could be on the verge of bleeding to death and still could refuse them, though hopefully someone else will step in or the person will see fit to finally lower a peg in order to receive their otherwise direly needed treatment. These traits pass between both genders.

Likes: Sweets, pleasantly cloudy weather, good health, respect, having a good time, spacing, being in either gender mode, pork buns!
Dislikes: Bitter tastes, too bright weather, too many sick or injured people (overloads his staff0, people assuming things about him, depression caused from over-thinking or assuming, unnecessary rudeness, mockery against his “problem”, raisins…

Division: 4th – your ever-loving captain ^-^

History:

Ryuken’s history within the real world is of very little interest, as he’d been much the normal man, though flamboyant and still ever spacey, but otherwise he hadn’t been anybody extraordinary. For the most part he’d been a book and game lover, appreciating graphics and the written world, as well as studies of varying degrees. This was to end when, a year after opening his own book store a thief thought to bombard his establishment, gun him down, and steal what little there was of value – in his perspective at any rate. Shortly after he was found by a shinigami discovered his soul and promptly cast him off to Soul Society in safety from becoming a hollow.

Within the confines of this new civilization, it was discovered that Ryuken possessed some characteristics that would allow him to gain shinigami abilities. With practice of course, he was by no means a prodigy. His entry exams put him somewhere in the middle of his class, not outstanding, and not horrid either in his performances. He continued to be something of an average student in his earlier years, but the teachers noticed a strong sense of distraction and lack of attention in his efforts, wondering what it would be like if he could just become motivated. Between swordplay, stratagem, and kidou classes, his best was kidou but even then he didn’t much care for attack styles and lead people to wonder if he’d be a part of a capture squad in this way.

This was dashed as in the midsts of his fifth year he admitted to having many a chats with his zanpakuto spirits since his third year, and actually gaining their powers in his fourth. Why he hadn’t told anyone? He’d simply forgotten to mention this little fact, but shared that they appeared to be more healing based than anything with some…other effects allocated. The spirit had been split to adapt to its abilities and become two parts so each could handle different aspects. Ryuken chose to finish his school years, as he didn’t wish to miss anything – oblivious to his own lack of attention at times – and so continued on until he graduated in his sixth year to join the fourth division.

Years passed as he continued to train in his own arts of healing, as well as gaining his own ways of fighting against enemies while keeping true to the ways of the fourth division. Over the years he became stronger in his use of his shikai, able to accompany on missions should a healer be deemed necessary as he could provide his own protection and became quite an asset. This also allowed him to increase his own potential, to, which he was, further encouraged to train in by his captain. This captain being one of the few capable of actually motivating him and hold his respect, soon saw Ryuken grow well enough to eventually take his place, over stepping his Lieutenant at the time. “Ryuken always grew and revealed it later” he told when advocating him for his spot, and revealed that some odd 20 years ago Ryuken had gained bankai, and mentioned it to him about five years ago. It was in this rather strange way Ryuken was eventually able to become a captain, after the proper tests and demonstration of his abilities.

Some more time passed as he was captain, and it was in this time that a fateful and rather bizarre accident took place. Whilst visiting the 12th division due to someone being harmed in a mini-lab explosion when one of the other divisionites came in excitedly to show their friend what they’d created. A pipe on the ground caused an amusing slipping about on their part, letting the liquid in the flask fly free, and landing onto Ryuken as the person accidentally smacked a few other vials of chemicals towards the captain. The captain of the research and development division arrived in time to see a female who bore some resemblance to the 4th division captain, as though a twin and…not. At first they believed this to be a permanent sex-change as they went to discuss this with the Captain Commander, and in mid private meeting he changed back, revealing that while not permanent, it was something he would have to deal with. They discovered that he could control it to some extent, to at least shove it off for a bit to change privately, so a story was concocted that his immune system had fallen and so sometimes in his lesser health moments his ‘sister’ would take over for him. At this time only the Captain Commander, the one 12th division captain, and his lieutenant know of this (usually) embarrassing secret. They have dubbed his female side "Yuuko."
